Lighting with a specific purpose

Supporting escape
when normal lighting fails.

Emergency escape lighting helps people identify and use escape routes if normal lighting fails. It needs regular testing and maintenance, with records of checks and any defects that require attention.

Frost’s emergency lighting services cover existing systems and installation or upgrade work. Tell us about your building, the current arrangements and any findings you need to address.

Start with the premises

The building sets
the brief.

Communal stairways, corridors and commercial spaces each have their own layout and use. Existing information helps us discuss the appropriate work and practical arrangements.

Share your property locations in London and Essex, particularly the M25 area, so we can discuss suitability.

  1. Understand the Building

We review the premises, the areas served and how the building is used, alongside existing plans and relevant fire risk assessment findings.

  2. Review the Existing Records

We review previous tests, reported faults and outstanding recommendations to identify what needs attention.

  3. Agree Access and Follow-Up

We agree test timing, keyholder access, repair approvals and the records your team needs.

Keep the follow-up in view

From failed tests
to agreed repairs.

If a test or inspection has identified a problem, share the findings and the affected locations. Frost can discuss investigation, repairs or replacement work, with the scope and authorisation agreed.

Emergency lighting can form part of your wider electrical maintenance programme, with visits, records and outstanding actions kept together.

Useful to know

Before you enquire.

Practical questions about maintaining your system.

Can you work with an existing emergency lighting system?

Yes. Tell us about the system, its locations and any known faults. Existing plans, test records and maintenance information help establish the work required.

Can you help after a failed test?

Frost provides emergency lighting fault finding and repairs. Share the test findings so we can discuss investigation and follow-up work. Attendance arrangements are agreed with our team.

How should testing fit around building use?

Discuss occupancy, access, test timing and any restrictions before arranging the work. The programme needs to take account of the system and how the premises are used.

Can you also improve the normal communal lighting?

Yes. We replace communal fittings and install LED lighting, sensors, timers and controls. See our lighting and control upgrades. General lighting improvements and emergency lighting requirements are considered separately.

Does an emergency lighting visit replace a fire risk assessment?

No. Emergency lighting work addresses that system. The building’s wider fire safety arrangements and fire risk assessment are separate responsibilities, and relevant findings should inform the brief.

For general workplace guidance, see GOV.UK’s fire safety equipment guidance (opens in a new tab).
